the vanburgh
string ensemble
The Vanbrugh Quartet was based in Cork since 1985. Regarded as Ireland's most distinguished string quartet, they performed extensively in Ireland and internationally.
One of Europe's most successful quartets, recognised for beauty of sound, clarity of texture and integrity of interpretation, they had an unusually wide and varied range of repertoire and have an extensive discography. Following the retirement of first violinist Gregory Ellis from quartet performance in 2017, Keith Pascoe (violin), Simon Aspell (viola) and Christopher Marwood (cello) continue as The Vanbrugh and will perform with selected guest artists. Their first guest is Irish pianist Michael McHale, with whom they will tour in Ireland in Feburary 2017 performing piano quartets by Mozart, Stanford and Dvorak.
